Model Interviews- Lady Rakasha

The Gloomth models are a little more like family than staff for us, as we tend to work with the same people repeatedly. If I mesh well creatively with someone it’s wonderful and worth revisiting time and again! We have systematically interviewed all the models in our regular roster in an attempt to show that they’re really as cool as they look. Some will also be providing articles for the ‘zine in the future!

Lady Rakasha is one of most our darling models, with her sweet demeanor and infectuous smile she lights up every photoshoot. Rakasha sparkles in our feminine Lolita pieces and posesses a certain alluring darkness. From levitating toys to frolicking with our official mascot, the Goth-Chicken, Rakasha can be found all over our catalogue.

Lady Rakasha answered our little questionaire also:

Gloomth Model Name: Lady Rakasha
Current Age: 19
Horoscope Sign: Aries

1. How did you get started modeling?
I actually started modeling with Gloomth, I had no experience before that. I was always told I was photogenic and that I should really get into modeling. So when I found Gloomth I figured I’d give it a try. To my surprise it worked out well and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of something I love so much.

2. How long have you been modeling? Do you consider yourself a “professional model”?
I haven’t been modeling for very long, and I’ve only worked with Gloomth, so I’m not sure you can really call me a “professional” just yet. It’s a nice thought, and I would love to be one, one day. However right now I feel I’m more so working towards that goal and building a portfolio.

3. How did you choose your Gloomth model nickname?
My Gloomth nick-name is a pen name I’ve used for years for my writing and art work. It’s sort of an alter-ego I created for myself, as Rakasha means “Demon” and represents my darker side.

5. What’s your favorite Gloomth outfit?
I have so many favorites it’s hard to decide! From the Tuxedo dress, to the Vrai Noir overcoat, to the Aubergine skirt. I love them all! But i tend to favorite those three in particular the most.

6. What advice do you have for girls (and boys) wanting to break into the modeling world?
Don’t be afriad to give it a try, and don’t feel you have to change yourself to fit into the stereo typical model image. Just keep at it, there are alot of alternative models, and there are many different ways to get in the buisness. Also remeber your portfolio is key, work hard to build something you’re proud of.
Join online groups like Model Mayhem to get some networking and find people you’re able to work with. There are also alot of modeling agencies like Sutherland that offer classes and such. It’s also important to keep in mind you may not make it big right off the bat. There will be alot of times you’ll be doing shoots for free or for just the photos. The experience you’ll gain from that however, and the pieces you can add to your portfolio are well worth it though. So be patient and keep at it.

7. How did you find out about Gloomth and get involved with us?
I was looking for some gothic lolita style clothing online and I came accross their site. I read the information page, and when I found out they not only were local, but looking for models to work with. I figured I’d contact them and give it a shot. I’ve always been told I should get into modeling, and well if I’m going to do it, I might as well model and support something I love and feel passionate about. Although I was nervous about it, and it was very unlike me to take a chance at something I wasnt’ sure of, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Not only does it help me gain experience and provide me with the opprotunity to build my portfolio and model such beautiful clothing, but I have made new friends who mean the world to me and are very supportive. I can’t imagine life without them, and never thought my involvement with Gloomth would become such an important part of my life, but it most definately has.
8. What do you do outside of modeling?
Outside of modeling I’m just a very quiet, shy person, which is why it was such a bold move for me to get into something like this. I spend alot of time alone, writing poetry, drawing and working on a book I’ve been writing for years. I’m also very much into the music scene, and am learning how to play guitar and the drums. As for schooling and future goals, I went to a private career college and became a certified make up artist. I plan on continuing my schooling and trying to make my way in the make up industry, because it’s not only a skill of mine but my passion. I love being able to express my artistic side while also helping people feel good about themselves. Being able to put both things I love in a career and the fact I get paid to do so is a dream come true for me.
9. How would you describe your personal style? Do you prefer to dress up or be a slouch?
My personal style is always changing. I love dark vivid colours, velvet, and lace, corsets and long skirts, frilly dresses, spikes and chains, my beloved collar, victorian and lolita styles, with a bit of a metal edge. I’ve always loved to dress up, and make my own clothes and costumes, finding a way to make the things I love work together. But sometimes I just feel like throwing on a t-shirt and pair of jeans for the day. Other days it’s a pair of live-in pajamas and lazing around the house. It all depends how I’m feeling that day, the way I dress often reflects myself and my mood.

10. What five things do you have with you in your bag/purse/whatever at all times?
Black eyeliner, lipstick, mirror, my wallet and phone, I can’t go anywhere without it!
11. If you had a marketing slogan or tag-line for yourself what would it be?
Lady Rakasha, 100% white meat! lol because i’m so pale.

12. What do you spend most of your online time doing?

I’m most often on facebook, deviant art or youtube, which I use for watching make up tutorials. I spend alot of time on deviant art though, checking out whats new, it’s like an addiction for me I check it daily to see if one of my favorite writers or artists has posted something I know I’m bound to love.
13. What’s the one thing you love and wish everyone else knew about?

hm… For me there are two. The writings of the ~Synthetic-MilkMan on deviant art is definitely one. He’s my favorite author yet to be published, and if he put out a book right now I’d be the first in line to buy it. The second is my friend’s band Lexia’s Aura. They’re just starting out, but my God his voice alone is so amazing! Then you add in his skills with a guitar and it’s just mind blowing. I love it so much and am so passionate about his music I want to tell the world! Look out for these guys because they’re the next big thing! =)

14. Top three worst movies you’ve ever seen?
The one I’ve seen most recently that was terrible was The Box. I just found it to be horrible, but I can’t really think of any others. I try to block out the memory of the bad ones because they’re not worth remembering haha.
15. Where else can we find you online?
You can most definitely find me on deviant art, user name LadyRaskasha. It’s been a little while since I’ve updated, I definately should get to it… but I have alot of my writing, drawings, photography and modeling on there. I’m a deviant of many talents lol.
