After almost three years running Doll Funeral we have accumulated quite the list of Wild Questions that we get from people. So here are some of the more common ones, just for amusement’s sake. 🙂

Is this a pop up for Halloween?

No. Curiously we get this one year round. No, we probably wouldn’t be running a Halloween pop up in June, but sure. I get it, some people see fun outfits as appropriate only for one day a year (how sad).

Do people really wear this stuff?

Yes (replies the clerk literally wearing the “stuff”)……

Why are you never open when I come by?

We’re open six days a week. Our hours are posted on google, instagram, our website, our blog, the door of the shop. I don’t know how else to help with this. We’re a small team not Walmart, we can’t be open 6am to midnight because we also have to manage our lives.

How much is your rent?

None of your business. I will never understand what drives people to ask strangers this. I have never walked into a shop and then thought to ask the owner what they’re paying to be there. Plus rent is not the main cost of running a shop….

Do you make any money doing this?

Fuck off. I can’t get my head around this question ever being asked in good faith. This is not respectful question to ask someone running a shop (or any other business). It has never once come from anyone but cis appearing dudes who don’t look like they’re part of this scene (the audacity is remarkable). Don’t ask people this, holy hell. It’s so condescending and invasive. Am I supposed to bust out my tax returns or show you the daily transactions list? Do you want me to say “no, we’re so broke what were we thinking?!” and fall crying at your feet? Do you want to know if you’d make more doing this than your career as a middle manager at Best Buy? Lordy. Just no, please, stop asking this. Please.

This was meant to be a joke. We do get all of these questions not infrequently and some are funnier than others. This isn’t meant to attack you if you’ve asked us these sorts of things, just pointing out the absurdity of life. 🙂
