Photos with an Antique Carousel!

Last week I got to cross something off my “ultimate shoot goals” list- photos with a real carousel!!!!!!!!!! This beautiful merry-go-round is from 1911 and was designed by Charles Loof. Loof was a Danish wood carver who also built the first carousel in Coney Island when he moved to the USA in about 1870. He also designed roller coasters and other rides, all with the beautiful elaborate carvings popular at the time.

The horses on this particular carousel are fiberglass replicas of the original wooden ones so that the ride can continue operating safely daily. The carousel itself was incredibly beautiful. Covered in mirrors and ornate carvings of cherubs and angels all over!

Maddyvstheinternet styled this fun clown-core look using our “Black Licorice” dress and a handmade clown hat and bloomers!

One thing I realized is it’s suuuuuper difficult to shoot on a moving ride. As we spun the light changed constantly and with the moving horses (and hiding my camera as we weren’t allowed to shoot haha) it was quite tricky. But we managed!

We took a TON of photos this day and I am super excited about them so I think I’ll spread them over a few posts here. This whole amusement park had so many strange and amazing backdrops, I can’t wait to share them with you! 🙂

See the photos here!
