A lot of fashion photography reduces women to props, angular sculptures of flesh upon which a designer’s efforts is displayed. That type of photography definitely has it’s place but it’s never been very interesting to me visually. I want to exhibit our clothing worn creatively, and accessibly (or accessible-ish, as not everyone has a gauntlet or a six foot bunny doll). I want our models to seem strong and independent and like real people you’d see on the street- albeit elaborately dressed.
In our new “Armored” photoshoot I wanted to show our delicate frilly “October” dress in a strong, fearsome way. A blend of Joan of Arc, 1980s fantasy book covers, and witchy vibes. Manda transformed into this character and we had a ton of fun creating these shots!
We shot outside on what could officially be called the first really nice day of Outdoor Shoot Season! The leaves haven’t unfurled yet but the woods was full of tiny blue flowers and birdsong. I love early spring, everything is grey or tawny and the air is crisp.
This shoot features a gorgeous necklace from Alchemy of England! We’ll be including some of their beautiful designs in our upcoming shoots.
Thank you to Manda for modeling for me again!
