Sometimes creating a photoshoot for Gloomth feels like hanging out with your friends, you end up goofing off and laughing about things and somehow the work gets done, but it doesn’t feel like *work*. This was one of those times! I think when shoots just feel fun it really shows in the end results!
Clara Venice is a Toronto musician and singer! She plays the theramin and a whole array of other electronic instruments and makes dreamy, magical pop music.
Her rainbow kawaii aesthetic was a perfect fit for this “heap of dolls party” theme I’d had brewing in my head for ages! So I made a giant pile of vintage toys and dolls in my studio, pink balloons, and pink backdrops and we set to it.
The resulting photos sit right at the intersection of adorable-kawaii and unsettlingly-saccharine. I love exploring how cute things can easily turn ominous or creepy by simply changing how they are presented or lit.
Clara wore our “Sugar Nurse” dress, new miniskirts, and our “Cherubs and Crosses” dress!
You can check out more of Clara Venice’s work on her website.
The rest of this giant photoshoot can be seen on our flickr album.
Heaps of thanks to Clara for modeling for us! I hope we can create more fun looks together in the future!
