Khalil Chishtee’s sculptures are truly haunting. Created out of melted plastic trash bags they seem as though they will shudder to life at any moment. Ghostly figures and animals creep through the walls or interact with one another in mournful tableau’s.
In an interview of his I read online he said something beautiful about art that really struck me.
“The simple intention to create and question is what makes art powerful. These days, when many countries, leaders and circumstances are playing with the lives of ordinary people, we need more and more artists to help us look and question. This is more important than anything; as better individuals form a better society.”
