Alternative Prom Dresses

I did not go to my prom. Which, as I’ve found out, is kind of a rite of passage for a lot of weirdos. I don’t regret not attending to be honest, the last thing I wanted to do at 17 was “party” with the people from my highschool (which I was working so hard to pretend did not exist).

It is Prom Season and I know some of our friends and fans are thinking about what to wear for prom! Being fancy while still expressing yourself can be a challenge, but we prefer to see it as a chance to be creative.

Here are some ideas for prom outfits based around a few of our designs! If you’re not going to prom think of them as inspiration for your next fancy evening outing. 😉

Royal Afternoon
Punk Prom Look: Feeling a bit brash? Maybe you want to mix up the typical fancy dress with some serious street edge. For this look we’d begin with our graphic “Union Jack” dress! We would pair it with a long square-dance style petticoat for that fancy evening length (while still being edgy), the visible length of petticoat will add some awesome texture to this look. A sequin crown hair clip and loads of gold toned spiked and studded bracelets add glamour to this edgy style. Finish with fishnets and high top sneakers or boots, and a messy up-do.

The Dolls

Gothic Prom Look: Maybe you want to be the shadow on the dancefloor, the dark royalty of your own eerie kingdom. For this look we’d begin with our “Valance” dress! With it’s corset details and gorgeous ruffles it’s the perfect start to our Goth Princess prom style.   Add our “Spellbound” shrug for more lush detail and for it’s awesome bell sleeves. Pair with elaborate black beaded jewelry, with crosses or pendants that hang down. Black gloves or arm warmers and your favorite cluster of rings. Finish with a fancy up-do fastened with glittering black clips or a small black crown, black lace tights, and buckled platforms or heels.

At the Station

Lolita Prom Look: Lolita style itself is already so fancy, how do you push that to a prom level? With a show-stopping dress and perfectly coordinated accessories. For this look we’d use our “Sorrow” dress in the gorgeous cranberry red (as shown). Pair it with decadent lace tights and red (to match) tea-party shoes with a heel and some ribbon details (if you can’t find coordinating red black would also look great)! Black lace wrist cuffs with red rose centres would be ideal, a cameo brooch or elegant necklace. A hime-style wig with lovely loose curls would be great, peppered with little red roses and finished with a matching red bow (the bow at the neckline for this dress is detachable and could easily be bobby pinned into your hair). Voila!

Are you preparing for prom or a fancy event?
