It’s funny to think when I first started shooting clown themes in my Gloomth shoots around 2015 we received angry comments/emails from folks thinking adding clown makeup to a subculture style “cheapened” it or had no place in it. Eyeroll. Some of ya’ll need real hobbies that remove your need for perpetual online discourse, it’s a bit sad. I guess it qualifies as a hobby to complain about other peoples’ work when you don’t put anything meaningful into the world yourself…sure?
Now “clowncore” is it’s whole own thing and I’m still shooting clown content with my dresses! I love clown styles because they are so versatile, there’s no online doing-it-wrong style police ready to leap onto the smallest infraction for clown aesthetic. Just face paint and a dream haha. It’s fun to explore the endless variations of clown themes and it always feels visually interesting to me.

Janet created the cutest soft clown makeup for this coord! We used our “Demon Court” dress as the show stopping base to the outfit and paired it with a black lace parasol.

I am perpetually grateful the online discourse surrounding alternative niche fashions is less toxic than it used to be. Or maybe I’m simply not seeing the toxic stuff because I don’t wallow around in the worst parts of the internet like a sad hog but either way- I will be continuing to shoot weird creative odd things with my frilly dresses because I like to. It’s fun to challenge myself with concepts and outfits, and I don’t think I have the patience to shoot one sole aesthetic perpetually. Yaawwwwwwnn. đŸ˜›
