Victorian Nun Inspired Shoot

Earlier this year I got to do a nun inspired shoot with Azura Rose and Mia! Nuns are definitely controversial, the harm the Catholic church has caused over centuries is immeasurable- and the shame and lingering messages of the church continue to pollute public policy in terrifying ways. I’m not posting this shoot so you’ll flame my comments section with bullshit defending hatred, I promise we’ll not engage and probably just block you. I also understand the sense of peace and community religion can offer some people (not every church is spewing hatred, I know I know, but ya’ll good churches aren’t stopping the others or their influence on legislation… so????), and I did my best to be respectful of that in our shoot.

Working with two trans models for this shoot felt very important to me. A sort of reclaiming of something harmful and turning it into something beautiful and vaguely subversive. Transfolk are experiencing a lot of scary targeting right now, often under the guise of religion. Ya’ll know folks doing things you don’t like or want to do personally doesn’t actually hurt you, right? I really hate khaki shorts but I’m not out here taking your GenX dad’s human rights away. I am not harmed by the shorts, just grossed out.

Azura is wearing our “Dracula’s Bride” dress and Mia is wearing our “Vampire Court” dress. Both can be found on our site!

You can see the rest of these photos on flickr!
