Cicada

I am fascinated by insects, especially the larger species I rarely get to see up close. Ontario has such a short summer we don’t get many big types of bugs, as compared to tropical climates. We do get some amazing cicadas though! I know they are all around me in the summer, I can hear their buzzing on humid days, but they’re usually in the trees concealed.

I was thrilled to happen across this handsome guy hanging out on the steps to my apartment building late one night. I couldn’t resist taking some close-ups of him and his amazing markings and wings. (Sorry for the pretty crummy photos, my little camera kind of sucks).
