About Taeden

I’m extremely bad at writing anything about myself. I prefer to be the faceless face behind the Gloomth empire and will choose the shadows over the limelight every single time. I like holding the puppet strings, hidden safely behind my curtain. However, I did start this blog intending to write about more of the day to day aspects of the company, and that includes introducing myself and being less invisible. 🙂

Back in July I answered a few mostly work related questions: https://gloomth.wordpress.com/2010/08/12/introductions/

In an effort to further explain who the hands behind Gloomth belong to I am filling out this silly meme that’s been plaguing every online community lately.

Why, yes, I did take this photo in the bathroom.

1. What time did you get up this morning?

Today, oh, about 8:30am-9am. I’m not sure, I don’t own a bedside clock.

2. How do you like your steak?

No steak, thank you. I suppose I am what would be considered a failed vegetarian. I don’t buy or cook meat, but I’m not militant about not consuming it.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?

“The Black Swan”. Such a gorgeous movie, with some really amazing costumes and makeup! It made me think about becoming a ballerina for about eight seconds- long enough for me to realize I am both too old and too busty.

4. What are your favorite TV shows?

Honestly, I hate television. I read a lot, I fritter around on the internet- I don’t have cable and my television serves as a shelf for candles. I do watch a lot of movies and documentaries however. I suppose fish documentaries would be a television program, technically.

5. If you could live anywhere where would it be?

Sweden!

6. What did you have for breakfast?

Leftover homemade vegan pizza with artichoke hearts and tomato on it.

7. What is your favorite cuisine?

That’s a tough one, I’m not really sure what my specific favorite cuisine would be. Japanese, Mexican, or popcorn maybe? Yes, popcorn is a cuisine.

8. What foods do you dislike?

Sandwiches. I can’t eat sandwiches for some reason, they gross me out. Ethiopian food (because it reminds me of cat-yack). Milk.

9. Favorite Place to Eat?

On the floor with a bunch of pillows, preferably with my closest friends.

10. last person you talked to on the phone?

The Head of Production here at Gloomth, our manufacturing studio is located just outside of the city so we do a lot of calling back and forth if I am not there during the day.

11.What kind of vehicle do you drive?

I don’t drive. I do have a pretty awesome bike though.

12. What are your favorite clothes?

Gloomth clothes! My favorite pieces right now, outside of anything Gloomth, would be my mint colored vintage slip jacket, this shirt I bought for $1 at the discount shop, and the bluish grey top with the embroidery I am wearing in the photo above. I recently dyed it and have been wearing it around everywhere. I’m weird.

13. Where would you visit if you had the chance?

Everywhere. I love to travel and if I had unlimited funds would be the best jet-setter!

14. Cup 1/2 empty or 1/2 full?

There is no cup. I like to think of myself as “rational nihilist”, so half empty or maybe the cup is broken already (stupid cup).

15. Where would you want to retire?

Hmm. I really have no idea. Somewhere near the ocean perhaps, or water at least.

16.  Favorite time of day?

Night or maybe early morning (once I’m caffeinated).

17. Where were you born?

Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

18. What is your favorite sport to watch?

No sports, thank you. Last winter was the first time I have ever watched any part of the Olympics actually. Friends of mine took me to a bar to watch the big hockey game involving Canada live on the television. The bar was crammed full of people who were excited and loud, the energy was overwhelming. I’m kind of an alien when it comes to those sorts of things, so I spent the entire time watching the people around me and trying to cheer or boo whenever they did. Now that I’ve done that I don’t feel I need to do it again.

19. Bird watcher?

I love predatory birds. Hawks, osprey, anything with talons that might eat your pet. I also live in a city so the birds I “watch” most often are fat pigeons and sparrows, not very exciting. Does squirrel watching count? There are squirrels a-plenty behind my apartment building.

20. Are you a morning person or a night person?

In the sense of working I am a morning person. I am analytical and focussed in the morning. I am creative and a better writer at night.

21. Pets?

2 kitties! Atticus and Smokey Josephine Patlova. I am also the biggest fish nerd you will ever meet, but currently do not own any pet fishes (I wish I did, but I moved recently and had to give away my huge tank as I have no space for it here).

22. Any new and exciting news that you’d like to share?

Not really. We have some great contests and collaborations on their way however! We also have some new dresses that I am beyond excited about coming in the new year.

23. What did you want to be when you were little?

A marine biologist who writes childrens’ books about cats in her spare time. I kid you not.

24. What is your best childhood memory?

Making box forts! I loved box forts. Playing in the woods, that sort of thing.

25. Are you a cat or dog person?

Cats. Dogs always remind me of bad lovers, all that drooling and needing- it’s unseemly.

26. Are you married?

Technically. At least until the paperwork is complete. 🙂

27. Always wear your seat belt?

Yes, because I don’t want to be horribly wounded from being launched through a windshield!

28. Been in a car accident?

Not that I can recall. A bus I was on once bumped into a parked car, it was a really icy night and the brakes wouldn’t catch.

29. Any pet peeves?

Disloyalty, people who play nicey-nice but spew vitriol the second you are absent. People who try to make me eat sandwiches. Hateful people. When my lips get dry and rough (which almost never happens as I obsessively apply lip stuff to prevent that).

30. Favorite pizza topping?

Artichoke hearts!

31. Favorite Flower?

Purple iris. I love irises dearly, they look like little upturned Victorian dresses. Such an elegant and understated flower.

32. favourite ice cream?

Milk makes it hard for me to breathe. The rare time I actually have iced cream it’ll be something like cookie dough or whatever has a bunch of chunks of something in it.

33. Favorite fast food restaurant?

No idea. There aren’t any very close to me so I don’t tend to eat at them. Subway, is subway a fast food restaurant?

34. How many times did you fail your driver’s test?

Zero because I have not tested for it. Yes, kids, I do not drive and do not have a license!

35. From whom did you get your last email?

Actually, from our Head of Production to confirm some sizing adjustments.

36. Which store would you choose to max out your credit card?

Value Village (thrift chain store)! Ha!

37. Do anything spontaneous lately?

Not super recently.

38. Like your job?

Love it.

39. Broccoli?

Yes please!

40. What was your favorite vacation?

I went to Italy a few years ago, it was incredible- especially for an art student who was at the time studying much of what she was seeing.

41. Last person you went out to dinner with?

I had breakfast out with my best friend this week.

42. What are you listening to right now?

Matthew Good’s “Hospital Music” album actually. Not very goth of me, but definitely very Canadian of me!

43. What is your favorite color?

Mint green! Any shade of minty green, but especially pastel. I also like champagne hues and bluish greys right now.

44. How many tattoos do you have?

Two. One fills a significant quantity of my back so it ought to count as more.

45. Coffee drinker?

Not yet. I have this list of Things to Figure Out to be an Adult and learning to like coffee is on there. I do drink a fair quantity of tea however.

46. How many children do you have?

None, unless my cat-babies count. I am not very good with children and do not wish for any of my own.

47. What is your full name?

Taeden Hall.
