Model Interviews- Dr.Hookz

The Gloomth models are a little more like family than staff for us, as we tend to work with the same people repeatedly. If I mesh well creatively with someone it’s wonderful and worth revisiting time and again! We have systematically interviewed all the models in our regular roster in an attempt to show that they’re really as cool as they look. Some will also be providing articles for the ‘zine in the future!

Dr.Hookz is another one of our awesome models who has suffered my insane photoshoot concepts- from wearing a gas mask and a petticoat to a water fight on a roof top- and looked fantastic doing it all! Her remarkable poses and gorgeous features stand out in any outfit or scenario.

Dr.Hookz also kindly answered my ridiculous list of questions:

Gloomth Model Name: Dr.Hookz
Current Age: 19
Horoscope Sign: Capricorn

1. How did you get started modeling?
An old friend of mine had got into it and told me I should try it. She introduced me to modelmayhem and thats kinda how things blossomed. I’m super tall and boney so I figured I’d put that to good use. It’s helped me get used to the fact that I’m 5’10. I was kinda skeptical at first but after my first few shoots and shows I was hooked! (get it? like.. dr.hookz?)

2. How long have you been modeling? Do you consider yourself a “professional model”?
I’ve been modeling for over a year and a half, I started out pretty slow though and I’ve been taking a bit of a break. I dont think I’ll consider myself professional until I’m signed by an agency… hopefully that happens soon!

3. How did you choose your Gloomth model nickname?
Well, I used to be “Goulia” but alot of my friends call me Dr.Hooker because of my name and I make farrrr too many sexual jokes with it. From there it was shortened to Dr.Hookz because thats more badass!

4. Tell us about the craziest photoshoot you’ve ever participated in! Any silly mishaps?
My very first photoshoot was so horrible I didnt think I’d ever model again. It was with this creepy-ass photographer who was asking for some really slutty poses. My best friend was with me and she knew I was uncomfortable, so after shooting for about half an hour I faked a phone call saying I had to meet my grandma in toronto for lunch.. she doesnt live anywhere near toronto. The photog was like “uhhh what?” and we hopped on the train and went shopping. 🙂

Other than that! I did a show downtown a few months ago, it was sooo soo rushed backstage and I had a quick change so as soon as I was off the runway I was stripped down by 3 people (oh baby!) 😉 unfortunately the dress I was changing into was put on by these 3 people and it was like insideout-backwards-upsidedown-unzipped-not tied up-my bra was showing a lot and I didnt have shoes on! the dress was so long I nearly fell so many times without my heels! It was horrible but I couldnt help laughing. Also, I think people in the crowd got a nice view of my crotch because there was a slit all the way up the front. It was great ahahaha.

5. What’s your favorite Gloomth outfit?
Definitely the outfits worn in the Flora and Fauna shoot by Lillith and Cromaggia, I’ve been planning to buy it for so long, I hate being a poor student! I love the dress Lady Rakasha wore in that shoot too, check it out 🙂

6. What advice do you have for girls (and boys) wanting to break into the modeling world?
Though not always legit, I have to say Modelmayhem helped me a lot. It’s a good way to get your foot in the door and build a profile without spending money.

7. How did you find out about Gloomth and get involved with us?
Derek contacted me through modelmayhem! He was the second photographer I’d ever worked with (after that super creepy guy). It was a group shoot so I felt way more comfortable and some of my favourite pictures to this day are from that shoot 🙂 Gloomth clothing is definitely what I love so that made it that much better!

8. What do you do outside of modeling?
Like I mentioned, I’m a university student, going into my second year working on my BSc in Molecular Biology & Genetics (I know, it’s a mouthful!). I’m a musician and always will be, I play a few different instruments but mainly flute — my university’s band only let in 2 flutes last year and I’m one of them! *bragsbragsbrags* I love baking and being out with my friends and I probably party a little more than I should, whoops! 😉

9. How would you describe your personal style? Do you prefer to dress up or be a slouch?
*sigh* Okay I know I talk a lot, but this is a tough one to explain. I grew up being the weird ones, even my elementary school teachers thought I dressed really weird. I never had normal coloured hair from grades 7 to 11 (it got too fried so I had to stop dying it). For all of that time I wore tutus and too much makeup and for a while every part of my wardrobe was black and white. Now for the mushy part: I kinda lost myself at some point dealing with some crap and earlier this year I had this huge realization that I forgot who I was in a sense (sorry, this sounds dumb!) since then I’ve been pulling out my old favourites and have gone back to the interesting clothes I love (this time a little more grown up). Anyways, to sum it up, I love anything vintage, victorian, very old fashioned and I love the 40s and 50s, etc. 🙂

10. What five things do you have with you in your bag/purse/whatever at all times?
scientific calculator (not those crappy ones with like 5 buttons on them)
ids, debit cards, etc.
bobby pins
I used to constantly have a piccolo and flute with me at all times, but thats kinda risky, so I’ll say keys and a spare pair of contacts

11. If you had a marketing slogan or tag-line for yourself what would it be?
Okay so I had a little fun with this and found a slogan website
“Get back your “Oooo” with Dr.Hookz”
“If you like a lot of chocolate on your Dr.Hookz, join our club”
“Dr.Hookz, the best a man can get”
“Make Dr.Hookz yours, now for one night only, 50% off!”
“Dr.Hookz, once you pop, the fun don’t stop”
But lets go with the classic;
“Dr.Hookz, trust me, I’m a doctor” 😉

Now I’m just getting inappropriate!

12. What do you spend most of your online time doing?
I hate to say it, but facebook, emails, and when I’m at school I’m constantly doing work online 😛

13. What’s the one thing you love and wish everyone else knew about?
I love this website:

14. Top three worst movies you’ve ever seen?
Saw – I will NEVER watch that again and I will never see any of the sequels.

15. Where else can we find you online?
